Introducing Trezy's Pets - Trezy's Pets

This game didn't even start out as a game. It started as a demo. I had a bunch of unused game assets sitting on Itch.io, so I threw them into a basic demo project to show off HappyView. At the time I figured it was a throwaway, but something about it charmed me too much to toss it in the bin.

See, I was really excited when ATBuddy released. I really wanted a fun virtual pet tied to my atproto account, but I was disappointed in my buddy because there wasn't any life to it. I wanted my buddy to emote at me. I wanted it to run around and play and I wanted it to meet up with other buddies. I wanted something more like Tamagotchi, but without the guilt.

Thus was born Trezy's Pets.

Trezy's Pets is inspired by ATBuddy, Tamagotchi, and other virtual pet games. Adopt your first pet and, if you care for it well, it'll generate enough money for you to buy your next pet! You can have up to three pets in your terrarium at a time, and they will never die.

Being guilt-free is a core part of the game's design. The worst that can happen is that your pets drop to 0 hunger and 0 happiness, wandering your terrarium wondering what they did wrong to be so neglected. However, they’ll perk up as soon as you return, ready to play, enjoy a snack, and show you that they always knew you'd come back. ❤️

Everything so far

Let's talk about what's already in the game, then we'll move on to what the future holds.

Pets - Obviously you can adopt your first pet and purchase more. If you want to eventually buy them all, make sure you always have the full three pets in your terrarium so they're generating as much money as they can! In fact, you can check all the pets that are currently in the game right here!

Snaaaaaacks - Your pets need to eat, so make sure to leave some kibble lying around for your pets to snack on. You can leave several pieces of kibble lying around and your pets will snack on it even when you're not around, but they'll only eat once every 30 minutes.

Play time - You can switch to the play tool to throw a ball around for your pets to chase! Keep in mind that your pets will chase the ball as much as you want to throw it, but this only fulfills your pet's need to play once every 30 minutes.

Store - You can see all the purchasable pets, and you can buy them as long as you have the money!

Badges - You can earn badges for everything from variety of pets to completing collections and earning tons of money. More badges coming in the future!

The [near] future

Caring for your critters is already a lot of fun... but how do we make it even better‽

MOAR PETS - Of course there will be more pets! We’ve already got several pets queued up, including snakes and more birds!

Unlockable pets - There are already several pets in the game that aren't accessible. Some of these will be unlocked by earning badges, others will be earned by spending time with your pets, and for some you will have to complete secret challenges to unlock them!

More foods - Right now the only thing you can drop for pets is basic, boring, brown kibble, but we all know animals like variety in their diet as much as anyone! I'll be adding several types of foods, and each pet will have their own food preferences. When a pet eats its favorite food, it'll get a much larger bump to its hunger meter, and it'll stay full for longer! These foods will be available from the shop, so your wallet will still be useful even after you've bought every pet in the game!

More toys - Not all pets love to chase the ball! Some may prefer to paw at a feather, or just get some good tummy scritches. Just like the new foods, these new toyswill be available in the shop.

Multiple terrariums - Players are currently assigned either the plains or the tundra terrarium at random when they first sign in. However, we also have cave and dark forest terrariums! You'll be able to purchase all 4 terrariums, and each will be able to have up to 3 pets active at a time.

Traits - Right now, all pets are pretty much the same. They eat, play, move, and earn at the same rates. Soon we'll be adding traits to pets to give them the quirks that make them so much more lovable! Some examples:

Mice don't like cats, and will be less happy when they're in the terrarium together
Some pets may not earn anything unless their stats are above 80%, in which case they'll earn double!
Some pets may be like garbage cans, happy to eat whatever you put in front of them, while others are extremely picky.
Some pets prefer the open plains terrarium over the frozen tundra environment, while others don't care as long as they get to spend their time with you!

Evolution - Like many pet sims before it, Trezy's Pets will support evolving your pets to bigger, better, louder, and sometimes just weirder creatures!

Mutation - Alongside evolution, some pets will be able to mutate into strange new forms! Only some pets will be able to mutate, and this will require finding and/or unlocking special items to feed your pets to trigger their mutations.

Desktop widget - Why only see your pets in the browser, when you could have them running around on your desktop! Let them keep you company all day long.

Mobile apps - Of course you'll want to care for your pets on the go! While the game works in mobile browsers, there are a lot of optimizations we can offer in native apps that just aren't available elsewhere.
